An Air Force master sergeant with 190th Operations Group has created a cargo-loading training simulator that improves safety and makes aircraft cargo load training more effective and efficient. Master Sgt. Nathan Neidhardt developed a simulated KC-135 Stratotanker floor that allows airmen to train in realistic conditions without having to wait for a real aircraft to become available, or keeping it from executing other missions. The new method is also safer, officials said. It's a controlled environment, so trainees can move around and make mistakes without fear of damaging a real aircraft's floor. The plywood, room-sized simulator cost just $3,000 in supplies to construct and is designed to the exact specifications of the floor of a KC-135. It's collapsible and includes the same support beams and tie-down points that the aircraft has. Read more about the innovation here.
