The 8th U.S. Army, stationed in the Republic of Korea, has established the first counter-drone defense plan in theater. In January, Echo Battery 6-52 Air and Missile Defense Battalion received orders to provide counter-unmanned aerial systems protection in the garrison environment at Camp Carroll, South Korea, according to a recent release. In addition to shoulder-fired Stinger missiles, the soldiers have been equipped with the new, high-tech DroneDefender system to take out enemy drones. In an eight-day training effort, the unit validated its ability to conduct counter-UAS operations on 8th Army installations, using a tactical operations center, the Avenger air defense system, DroneDefender devices and more.
