In the wake of a highly publicized service push to recruit more aggressively from major U.S. cities, Army data shows that some major cities are seeing rising recruiting figures. Army recruiting is up 27 percent in Minneapolis year-over-year; New York City is up 19 percent; and Baltimore is up 17 percent, according to a recent service news release. The Army metropolitan region recruiting effort is focused on 22 cities, all with little previous exposure to service recruitment efforts. One line of effort involves "Meet Your Army" events. For example, Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James C. McConville appeared in Boston on April 14 to throw out the first pitch at a Red Sox game and ran the Boston Marathon the next day as part of an all-new "Boston Army Week" initiative.
