Navy ships could discolor more slowly thanks to a new pigment package designed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, according to a Navy news release. Past standard “haze gray” paint solutions kept corrosion and delamination at bay, but couldn’t stop fading, which gave ships an inconsistent appearance during touch-ups and repairs. The first ship to receive a coating with the pigment combination was USS Essex in 2017, and the most recent ship to receive it was the carrier USS George Washington. Read more at Navy.mil.
