This is a blog post about two of my favorite things: coffee and brownies.

You may have heard of Dog Tag Bakery, a small business with delicious treats in the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C. A living business incubator for veterans and military spouses, the bakery offers fellowships to veterans and military spouses.

Program fellows run the business doing the normal food service stuff like serving coffee, cleaning and working the register. And as they go they learn the ins and outs of running a small business, take classes at nearby Georgetown University and network with major corporations.

They also walk away from the six month program with a certificate in business administration from Georgetown.

If you're not in the D.C. area you've probably never had the chance to try anything from the bakery or support the program with your brownie dollars. Out here in Alaska land it's definitely not possible.

Which is why I was so excited yesterday to read that Starbucks is now carrying Dog Tag brownies at 8,000 of their stores nationwide. Starbucks already has an awesome veteran and military spouse hiring program. They also have military family stores around the country specifically dedicated to military support.

And now you can support all that while also supporting Dog Tag. That's a win-win.

The Dog Tag brownie, (a "salted potato chip crusted brownie" yummmm) is available in honor of Military Appreciation Month, which is celebrated annually over May. Starbucks officials said the treat will be available until early June or "while supplies last."

Now, excuse me while I make a brownie and coffee run.
