Debuts Engaging Personal Accounts of America's Longest Conflict
SAN FRANCISCO and WASHINGTON, DC -- Today Military.com launched a Cold War Retrospective with unusual stories and multimedia features such as vintage Civil Defense guides, an atomic blast pictorial and a description of the little-known Air Force nuclear powered aircraft program. "Military.com Remembers The Cold War" highlights the insiders and the intrigue surrounding events during the first 55 years of the Atomic Age.
Visitors can explore the Cold War through the personal accounts of Brig. Gen. Paul Tibbets, pilot of the Enola Gay (the aircraft that dropped the first nuclear bomb on Japan) and scientists from the Manhattan project. Rare details of the human cost of crude nuclear laboratory experiments accompany nostalgic stories of "Duck and Cover" drills performed by schoolchildren, samples of plans to build personal fallout shelters, and the overall drive to control the "nuclear genie."
Visitors can find "Military.com Remembers the Cold War" by clicking on the History tab on the Military.com homepage (http://www.military.com). Also in this section, Military.com is collecting the stories of Americans who served during the Cold War, as well as the stories of those who felt its impact at home. Visit this feature now.
