Military.com Partners with the American Red Cross and CarePackages.com

Washington, DC, San Francisco, CA, and Boston, MA - Military.com, the American Red Cross, and CarePackages.com have partnered to help people, including those without a friend or family member in the armed forces, show their support for overseas military personnel this holiday season by sending care packages and messages of support to U.S. military personnel stationed in Uzbekistan, Diego Garcia, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Kosovo and Turkey.

Military.com donates 100% of net proceeds from the sale of “Support Our Troops” care packages to the American Red Cross in support of the agency’s Armed Forces Emergency Services Program.

The “Support Our Troops” program was designed in response to overwhelming demand from individuals and corporations seeking to offer direct support to men and women in uniform this holiday season, especially in light of the number of overseas deployments, activation of reservists/guard members and the cancellation of the “Operation Dear Abby” Program.

In one e-mail from a serviceman, similar to several received by Military.com, a sailor writes:

“Dear sir,

Some of the sailors and marines on my ship including myself were wondering how we could become recipients of the care packages sent from the people…

Thank you in advance for your response.

Sincerely,
FN Moyo”

The “Support Our Troops” Program utilizes a bulk shipping method designed with security in mind. Each high quality care package is assembled in a single secure location by professional staff, and orders are fulfilled from a U.S. Postal Service Certified Mail Center facility inspected twice daily.

The care packages provided by CarePackages.com consist of trusted, brand name treats from widely recognized product manufacturers. Consumers can order ready-made care packages, or customize a care package by picking from a wide selection of snacks, toys, candy, etc. featured on the Web site. (Reporters please note: For security reasons, The Department of Defense has released an official statement on the suspension of other "Unspecified Servicemember" mail programs by the general public. The general public is prohibited from assembling care packages and shipping them to the program providers, nor can they provide addresses of servicemen and women overseas.)

About Red Cross

The American Red Cross is dedicated to saving lives, easing suffering and restoring hope at home and around the world. Known widely for its work in disaster situations, the American Red Cross also provides programs to assist members of the military and their families. Net proceeds from the sales of these products will go to benefit the Armed Forces Emergency Services program of the American Red Cross at the national and local levels. Chapters relay emergency messages 24-hours, seven days a week, offer one-on-one counseling, financial and other assistance to military families. Such financial assistance is currently being provided to some families of National Guard personnel deployed under operation Enduring Freedom. This program is especially important now that no Liberty Fund donations will be used to support military programs. While the Red Cross is mandated by Congress as the liaison for American families and their loved-ones in the military, the organization does not receive any government financial assistance.
