New skills translator helps transitioning military personnel find jobs

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – In an effort to better help military personal transition into the civilian job market, Military.com, the nation's largest military and veteran online membership organization and a business unit of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE:MWW), today announced the availability of the Military Skills Translator. The new online tool is designed to make it easier for transitioning military personnel to find civilian jobs that align with their military specialties and skills. The Military Skills Translator can be found at www.military.com/skills-translator.

"During focus groups with transitioning service members, we found many had a great deal of concern over how their military specialties and skills would translate to civilian equivalents," said Tony Baker, senior director of marketing at Military Advantage. "Many service members understand they have valuable skills, but they have difficulty understanding where those skills fit into a civilian workforce; the Skills Translator will help them determine the best fit for their military experience."

The new Skills Translator converts military specialties into civilian occupations and identifies similar occupations for the user to consider. The new product also features career paths other veterans with similar backgrounds have taken and provides networking between veterans and transitioning personnel for mentorship on education opportunities, transition challenges and career advice based on job specialty.

Job searches for some military personnel can be difficult if they are unaware of what civilian field best compliments their skill set. Additionally, the language and terminology is often different within the military and those terms do not translate well to the civilian market place when seeking employment.

The improved Skills Translator addresses those challenges with a function that matches civilian terminology to military terminology in order to assist military personnel in their resume writing. This function also allows recruiters and civilian employers to better understand a potential employee's resume and how those military skills will be of value to their organization.

Monster Worldwide and Military.com are committed to advancing career opportunities for transitioning military personnel and supporting them throughout their military and civilian careers. Mark Maxwell, vice president of product management at Military.com commented, "This tool is more than just another search function add-on. It truly breaks down the barriers of communication and language between the military and civilian worlds and will enable more transitioning service members to be matched with jobs that suit their skill sets."
