Restaurants, retailers and the entertainment industry shower military, veterans, retirees and their families with appreciation over Veterans Day weekend

McLean, Va – Military.com is showcasing the best Veterans Day Discounts again this year with a curated list of restaurants, retailers and organizations seeking to show their appreciation for servicemembers, veterans, retirees, and their families.

Over 32 national and local restaurants are offering special deals for military and veterans. Applebee's is offering a free meal from a special menu while California Pizza Kitchen is offering a free entree from a select menu, and Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut and small coffee to all veterans on November 11th.  Denny's is inviting active and retired military personnel to stop by participating locations for a free Build Your Own Grand Slam(R) on Tuesday, November 11th, from 5 a.m. to noon.

Free meals aren't the only deal being offered. Travel and Recreation Discounts include free admission for veterans, active duty and retirees and a guest to Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California through January 4, 2015. SeaWorld and Busch Gardens are offering half price admission for veterans and active duty through November 11th and Mount Vernon is inviting all active duty, former or retired military personnel to enjoy free admission on Veterans Day.

Retailers are celebrating Veterans Day with discounts including free haircuts at Sport Clips for veterans on November 11th, 10 percent off of purchases at Rack Room Shoes for military personnel and their dependents and special discounts on mattresses from Sleep Number beds.

Veterans and military personnel should keep in mind that most businesses require proof of military service, which can include a VA Universal Access Card, Military I.D., DD-214 (Discharge Papers), Veterans Service Organization Card (VSO's include groups like the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, American Veterans, Military Officers Association of America, Fleet Reserve Association, and the American Legion), or in some cases businesses will accept a picture of the veteran in uniform.

Veterans are encouraged to read the offers carefully as some discounts are offered in the days before Veterans Day such as McCormick and Schmick's which offers a complimentary entree from a special menu to veterans on Sunday, November 9th.

Additionally, not all franchise locations participate in their national chain's Veterans Day programs--customers are encouraged to contact their nearest establishment to make sure they are willing to honor the discount at that location.

Another feature this year includes organizations who are giving back to veteran and military causes. For example, during the entire month of November all 97 locally owned and operated McDonald's of Hampton Roads restaurants will donate a portion of all sales of Big Mac and Quarter Pounder with Cheese Extra Value Meals to the Virginia Wounded Warrior Program (VAWWP).
