The U.S. Army announced Thursday that the general in charge of all of the service's installations has been relieved of command.

On Thursday afternoon, Gen. Gustave Perna, commander of Army Materiel Command, relieved Lt. Gen. Bradley A. Becker of his position as commanding general of U.S. Army Installation Management Command "due to a loss of trust and confidence in his ability to command," Brig. Gen. Amy Hannah, a service spokeswoman, said in a statement.

Maj. Gen. Timothy McGuire, deputy commander of Installation Command, will serve as interim commander, Hannah said.

An investigation is ongoing, but Hannah said it is not related to the recent scandal of unhealthy and dangerous living conditions in Army on-base housing. He is not being investigated over any type of alleged criminal misconduct either, she added.
