Correspondence training generally differs from distance learning in that students receive lessons and have a certain amount of time to complete and return them for a grade.
The Department of Veterans Affairs reimburses GI Bill recipients for correspondence courses quarterly after receiving certification from the school of lessons completed.
Correspondence training is not available for children training under the Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) program.
For the Post-9/11 GI Bill, VA reimburses the lesser of the net actual costs for in-state tuition and fees or the maximum amount allowed by law. See our Post-9/11 GI Bill Rates page for details.
For Montgomery GI Bill recipients, VA reimburses 55% of the approved costs. VA will begin to phase out the Montgomery GI Bill in 2030.
