Deadlines Soon for These 2018 Military Spouse and Family Scholarships

Looking for military or military child scholarships to apply for this spring?

These 2018 spring scholarships just for military families could help you find the money you or your family needs to pay for school this summer or next fall.

Military Child Scholarships 2018

AMVETS. Children and grandchildren of veterans or active-duty military members who are high school seniors can apply for this scholarship from AMVETS. The money can be used for part-time, full-time, undergraduate and graduate programs; accredited degrees or certificates; and online programs. Scholarships are for $4,000 (given in $1,000 annual increments) or $1,000, available for JROTC students. Apply by April 30.

MG James Ursano Scholarship. For children of active-duty or reserve soldiers or retirees administered by the Army Emergency Relief (AER), the needs-based scholarship awards range from about $600 to more than $4,000 per student. Application deadline is April 2.

Heroes Legacy Scholarship. For the children of injured active-duty troops, retirees, Guard and reserve members, or military survivors, this scholarship gives up to $5,000 to cover tuition and fees. Application deadline is March 16.

Military Spouse and Child Scholarships 2018

Army Scholarship Foundation. Given to children (under age 24) or spouses of active-duty Army troops, the scholarship is for undergraduate degrees and averages about $1,000 per award. The deadline for this scholarship application is April 15.

General Henry H. Arnold Education Grant Program. Exclusively for the spouses and children of current or former members of the Air Force or Air Guard and their surviving spouses and children, this needs-based scholarship gives grants of $500 to $4,000. The deadline is March 10.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society. This relief society gives both interest-free loans and grants for the dependents of active-duty or retired sailors and Marines. The funds can be used for classes or other education expenses such as room and board. Given based on financial need, award amounts range from $500 to $3,000. The application deadline is May 1.

ThanksUSA. Dependent military children under age 24 and military spouses can apply for this $3,000 scholarship. You must have a 2.0 GPA to qualify, and applications can be submitted between April 1 and May 15.

Other scholarships

Your military association. Is your service member a part of a specific military association related to their military speciality? Many of these organizations offer their own scholarships. For example, the Seabee Memorial Scholarship is available to the children and spouses of Navy Seabees, while the 101st Airborne Division Association provides scholarships to dependents of former or current members of that Army unit. Check with your unit’s association for more information!

On-base spouse clubs. Spouse clubs on military installations worldwide often offer scholarships for both spouses and children of service members. The deadlines for these applications vary, so contact your local spouse club for more information.
