Arizona

Tuition and Fees-Deferred Payment
A veteran or eligible dependent who has applied for educational benefits under the G. I. Bill state-supported community colleges, colleges and universities may defer payment of tuition, fees and required books for a period of 120 days with no interest charges. If, at the end of such period, the person has not received from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs the initial benefit monies for tuition and fees, an extension may be granted until such time benefits are received.

Tuition Waivers for War-Wounded and Dependents of Killed in Action
A former member of the Arizona National Guard who received a purple heart citation on or after September 11, 2001 (who was medically discharged because of a service-connected injury) is eligible for a tuition waiver. A tuition waiver for Arizona community colleges and universities is also available to a dependent of the national guard member or member of the United States armed forces who was a resident of the state of Arizona or stationed in Arizona and who was killed in the line of duty or who died from injuries suffered in the line of duty while traveling to or from duty.

Colorado

Tuition Assistance
Any member of the Colorado National Guard is eligible for state tuition assistance, up to 100% tuition paid at any CO state-funded school depending on funding available. State funding can be used in conjunction with Federal Tuition Assistance. Deadline for Spring Semester is Dec. 1. Deadline for Fall Semester is July 1. Summer deadline is May 1 (if funding is available).

Eligibility: Colorado National Guard member must serve 2 years for each year granted.

Nevada

Waiver of Fees for Members of Nevada National Guard
The University of Nevada system may grant a waiver of registration and laboratory fees for any member of the active Nevada National Guard.

Waiver of Fees for Children and Surviving Spouses of Nevada National Guard
The University of Nevada system may grant a waiver of registration and laboratory fees for any child or surviving spouse of a Nevada National Guard member killed in the line of duty. A child may use a waiver granted for 10 years after they attain the age of 18 years. A surviving spouse may use a waiver granted pursuant to this section for 10 years after the member's date of death.

New Mexico

Children of Deceased Veterans
Children between the ages of 16-26 whose veteran parent was killed in action or died as a result of their wounds incurred in battle, qualify for a full tuition waiver at any state funded post-secondary school. A $150 stipend, per semester, will be issued to help with books or fees.

Vietnam Veteran Scholarship
Veterans who have been residents of New Mexico for a minimum of 10 years, served in Vietnam, and were issued the Vietnam Campaign or Service Medal are eligible. The Vietnam Veteran Scholarship will pay full tuition and books at any state funded post-secondary school. 

Wartime Veteran Scholarship Fund
Can be used by any veteran who has served in combat since 1990 and who has exhausted all available federal G.I. Education Benefits options. An eligible combat veteran who has served since 1990 will thus no longer have to worry about utilizing their GI Education Benefit bill under a deadline which may not fit their timeframe.

Utah

Tuition Waiver for Purple Heart Recipients
Purple Heart recipients are eligible for a tuition waiver at all public institution of higher learning in Utah. This benefit can be used toward a degree up to and including a Masters Degree. To receive this benefit the Veteran must submit proof that they are a Purple Heart recipient to the State Institution they are attending.

Scott B Lundell Tuition Waiver for Military Members' Surviving Dependents 
Surviving dependants of service members killed in action on or after September 11, 2001 are eligible for a tuition waiver at state schools.

Veterans Tuition Gap Program
The Veterans Tuition Gap Program enables qualifying military veterans to receive tuition assistance for the last school year at State institutions of higher education. It is for tuition only and does not include housing, books, etc.

Wyoming

Free tuition and fees for education of War Orphans and Veterans
Wyoming provides 10 free semesters of tuition and fees for overseas combat Veterans at the Wyoming community colleges or the University of Wyoming. Surviving spouses and dependent children are also eligible for this benefit if the military member died in combat.

Wyoming National Guard 100% State Educational Assistance Plan 
WY NG members may receive 100% of tuition and mandatory fees at the University of Wyoming, the seven community colleges, and the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy. Members may receive partial payment of tuition at private colleges and institutions for programs offered within Wyoming.
