The Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) is a DoD organization created to help Servicemembers pursue their educational goals and earn the degrees or certification they deserve while continuing to serve their country.
Think of it this way: Traditional education requires reporting to class, and sitting in a classroom on the teacher's schedule. However, "Non-Traditional" education is completely flexible, it fits your schedule, life style, and goals. Through the programs that DANTES supports, your local education services office have the tools to help you be successful.
DANTES offers information and support for numerous "Non-Traditional" ways to pursue these academic and vocational goals including information about courses taught through:

The Credit-by-Examination Program
This program provides several examination programs that can help you:
- Earn high school credentials
- Satisfy undergraduate and graduate level college admission requirements
- Earn college credit
- Gain professional certification
Most tests are offered at your local education center free-of-charge for active duty members and are also available using your GI Bill benefits for veterans at locations worldwide.

The Military Evaluations Program
This program can give you college credit for training completed while in the service. The program actually recommends the college credits based on the contents of the training. Career Guidance Materials and Interest Inventories
DANTES also offers aptitude testing to help you determine which education program or occupation would be the best for you. The self assessment programs are a career enhancement tool for military members undergoing transition to civilian life. The program, specifically designed for the military, is a comprehensive online resource to help you plan for the future. Learn about your interests, skills and work values and use those results to build a personal career plan, explore occupational information and plan for your future success.

Troops To Teachers Program (TTT)
Troops to Teachers helps veterans begin a new careers as public school teachers where their skills and experience can be used. Most veterans with an honorable discharge are eligible for the program. Eligible persons may receive up to $10,000 in financial aid towards their degree.
