Tens of thousands of Americans each year utilize a program that saves them an average of $670 per class by completing nationally accredited DSST examinations that are accepted by more than 1,900 institutions.

Prometric delivered 65,000 DSST exams in 2015, in 1,200 test centers in the U.S. and overseas, providing an estimated $43.5 million in college savings for active duty military, veterans and civilian students.

The DSST program is recommended by the American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service and utilized by the U.S. Department of Defense to offer active duty military a way to complete college while in service.

The most used DSST exam titles for 2015 were:

Military:

  • Principles of Supervision
  • Introduction to Computing
  • Principles of Public Speaking

Civilian:

  • Here's to Your Health
  • Introduction to World Religion
  • Substance Abuse

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, DANTES has offered and supported voluntary educational programs on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense. DANTES authorizes up-front funding of exam fees for eligible military and their spouses at all test centers where the Internet-based exams are administered.

The American Council on Education's College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE Credit) has evaluated and recommended college credit for DSST exams.  ACE Credit connects workplace learning with colleges and universities for formal courses and examinations taken in the workplace or other settings outside traditional higher education.
