Great performances and a mission of service brought Voices of Service to the finals, but 22-year-old blind and autistic singer/pianist Kodi Lee took the crown on the season finale of "America's Got Talent."
That doesn't mean that Voices of Service, which includes retired Master Sgt. Caleb Green, retired Staff Sgt. Ron Henry, Sgt. Maj. Christal Rheams and Sgt. 1st Class Jason Hanna, didn't deliver in its final performance. They wowed the judges with a moving rendition of Leona Lewis' hit "Footprints in the Sand" on Monday's show.
On Tuesday's finale, the group performed "Some Gave All" alongside Billy Ray Cyrus.
America voted, and Voices of Service was the first act eliminated from the Top 5. We all know that America doesn't always get its voting right, but the group displayed grace and gratitude when it got the news.
Millions of Americans now know Voices of Service. Of all the performers in this year's competition, they seem the act best positioned to use this exposure to maintain a long career. Here's hoping we'll hear their voices for years to come.
