The Land Rover Defender is one of the world's definitive off-road SUVs, along with the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, Jeep CJ series, and Toyota Land Cruiser. These rigs have conquered rugged terrain all over the world.

The original Defender ended production in early 2016, and, as a celebration of the model, Land Rover built a limited run of 400 Heritage Editions for the United Kingdom. These examples featured a mix of modern touches and vintage styling cues. Now, there's a chance to own one of the very last examples off the line, and it remains in impressive condition.

This Defender has just a single previous owner and includes a folder of maintenance documentation. Plus, there are only 4,597 miles on the odometer. The vehicle's production date was January 29, 2016, which also happened to be the final day of Defender production. The timing made this last Heritage model off the line and the fourth-to-last Defender overall.

The UK-based auction site Collecting Cars is now selling this special vehicle. It wears a Grasmere Green body with an Alaska White roof. Vintage-inspired elements on the grille and lamp bezels add to the retro appearance, and the SUV rides on steel wheels. Inside, there are red and yellow trim accents inspired by the controls on the early Land Rover Series I. There's also Indus Silver trim in the cabin.

As of this story's publication, the bidding is still at only 6,100 pounds ($8,223 at current exchange rates). However, the sale doesn't end for roughly a week on December 30, as of this story's writing.

A Special Defender

While being one of the last Defenders to leave the factory makes this one special, it has a few other options that make it particularly spectacular. There are silver side steps and a radio with a subwoofer. The seller believes this example's factory air-conditioning is the only Defender 90 Station Wagon Heritage in the UK to have this option.

Under the hood, this Defender packs a 2.2-liter turbodiesel four-cylinder, making a modest 122 horsepower. The engine connects to a six-speed manual with a low-range transfer case.

The previous owner was allegedly meticulous with maintenance. According to the listing, the person noted every journey by hand. Two keys and a logbook come with the vehicle. It also has printed documentation showing that it is one of the final 20 Defenders produced at Land Rover's Solihull factory. There's even a collection of images showing the production process. Since delivery, this Defender has appeared in the publications Land Rover International, Land Rover Monthly, and CAR.
