Maybe we should've seen this one coming. Volvo already killed off its full size V90 wagon around the world, after all. Still, this news stings. The company that may be more associated with wagons than any other, at least among Americans, will no longer sell wagons in the United States. The last model is the V60 Cross Country, and you only have a short window to get your order in before it goes away.

Even Volvo Seems A Little Sad

Volvo buried the bad news in the second half of a press release talking about some of its big announcements from the past year and how the company has been changing. It basically sounds like Volvo is trying to brace the readers for the bad news, right up to its wording for the model's cancellation.

Sometimes these adaptations can be bittersweet. As our customers in the US overwhelmingly prefer SUVs, early next year we’ll take the last orders for this generation of Volvo wagons, with the V60 Cross Country ending production in April 2026.

It's certainly true, the V60 Cross Country, the sole version of the S60 and V60 still on sale in the US, is one of the brand's slowest sellers. So far this year, Volvo has sold 3,630 of the lifted wagons. Of other currently sold and marketed models, only the EX90 sold worse, and only by about 300 units. At the other end of the sales spectrum is the XC60. It fits a similar niche as the V60 Cross Country, but with more conventional SUV looks. It's the brand's top seller at more than 36,000 units, or about 10 times the number of V60s.

Still — and it may just be that we're in denial — it feels like maybe Volvo's killing this model a little prematurely. While it's at the bottom of the sales charts, it is ahead of its big EV. Also, sales of the V60 Cross Country have more than doubled compared to last year, when Volvo only sold 1,759 examples over the same time period. The model is fairly old at this point, too, so the sales increase is interesting.

Act Quickly If You're In The US

While production of American-spec V60s will last until April next year, Volvo is closing the order books sooner. Customers and dealers have until late January to submit orders. We're expecting there will be examples on lots for much of 2026, but if you have a specific configuration you'd like, you may want to visit a dealer to get that order in while you have time.
