Pricey Pokemon Cards Stolen from Store Owned by Tom Brady

A thief has pulled off a significant heist, stealing valuable Pokemon TCG cards from a store owned by NFL legend Tom Brady. The Pokemon TCG theft is actively being investigated by police, as the perpetrator is still at large.

Pokemon TCG has become big business for many, with shops, collectors, and resellers handling high-value cards on a regular basis. Unfortunately, since Pokemon TCG cards have no unique identifiers, can be easily pocketed, and depending on the card, potentially sell for a high price, they've become a common target for theft. This particular incident is just one of the latest cases of a card shop being burgled or stolen from.

Now, the NYPD has revealed that on October 20, CardVault by Tom Brady experienced a significant theft. According to the NYPD, a single person is allegedly to blame, who managed to trick the clerks into thinking they had paid when they hadn't. Upon checking out, their transaction was declined, but the person in question "entered manual prompts" into the credit card terminal, which "bypassed" the transaction. As a result, the clerk believed that the transaction had completed normally, and the alleged customer left with their ill-gotten goods of baseball and pricey Pokemon cards, worth $9700.

At the moment, the shop nor police have shared which cards were stolen, perhaps because the thief is still at large. However, they did share surveillance footage that shows the alleged thief. While $10,000 is nothing to scoff at, it's actually one of the smaller cases of theft of Pokemon cards from stores as of late. Just in 2024 alone, thieves in Osaka, Japan stole around $70,000 worth of Pokemon cards from a store there, while multiple businesses in the west made the news after thieves stole hundreds of thousands, and in one case, even $1 million in Pokemon cards. However, it's worth noting that this particular location of CardVault by Tom Brady had only opened earlier in October. A theft within the first few weeks of operation is quite unfortunate.
