A panel of House and Senate lawmakers reached a deal Monday to give military members a 2.6 percent pay raise in 2019.
Check out the proposed 2019 pay charts.
The bicameral panel, made up of lawmakers from both houses, approved the pay deal as a part of the larger National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019 (HR 5515), also known as the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2019.
The panel resolved differences between the house and senate versions of the 2019 military spending bill, and sent their final committee report to the House Rules Committee to schedule a vote on their recommendations that seek to compromise and include details from both versions of the bill.
A final vote on the conference's recommendations could come as early as next week.
If the measure passes, and is signed by the president, the pay raise will go into effect for fiscal year 2019, which begins Oct. 1, 2018.
If that happens, it would be the first time since 1996 that the NDAA actually became law before start of the fiscal year.
