Broken Lizard Plays to the Fans With 'Super Troopers 2'

"Super Troopers 2" (out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital) is notable for a couple of things: Fans of the Broken Lizard comedy troupe funded the movie on Indiegogo with $4.6 million in funding after studios passed on the project. Also, it features Rob Lowe doing what's got to be the worst French Canadian accent in the history of movies.

If you love "Super Troopers" or "Beerfest," why didn't you go to the theaters to see this movie? It was a surprise hit this past winter and turned enough of a profit to warrant another sequel, coming soon and allegedly called "Super Troopers: Winter Soldiers." 

There's a border dispute between the USA and Canada and the Vermont governor (played by Linda Carter) rehires the disgraced state patrolmen to set up shop in a sliver of Canada that's about to be handed over to the United States. They alienate the Canadian locals, get into disputes with the Canadian Mounties set to be displaced by the move and uncover a smuggling operation.

As weed becomes legal across the country, it's fair to ask whether juvenile drug-fueled humor can maintain a subversive edge. If you're high school bio teacher is lighting up and zoning out with Broken Lizard at night, how rebellious will 420 be? 

Jimmy Tatro (the alleged vandal Dylan in the outstanding Netflix series "American Vandal") has a great moment as the victim of a traffic stop, Jim Gaffigan reprises his part from the first movie and there's a good bit with cows that alludes to the French Taunting scene from "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

Watch it with a group. Most of you will have to enjoy it with beer, but if you live in California, Colorado or Massachusetts, it might be funnier if you exercise your newly acquired cannabis rights.
