Saddam's Right-Hand Man Killed in Iraq

Share

Izzat al-Douri, the last of former leader Saddam Hussein’s henchmen still at large in Iraq, is said to have died during a shootout in the Hamrin Mountain range. It lies around 54 kilometres northeast of the provincial capital Tikrit, which was Saddam Hussein’s native town. The former general was the highest-ranking Iraqi official to avoid capture after the U.S.-led invasion that toppled Hussein in 2003. He was the last surviving member of the late Hussein’s inner circle.
