About Heather Sweeney

Heather Sweeney is a content editor at Military.com. She started writing about her life as a military spouse in 2010 on her popular blog, Riding the Roller Coaster. She joined Military.com’s SpouseBuzz team in 2012 and has been covering military discounts since 2013. Her debut memoir Camouflage: How I Emerged from the Shadows of a Military Marriage was released in October 2025.

Before joining Military.com, Heather was a kindergarten teacher. In addition to her work at Military.com, her essays have appeared in the New York Times, The Washington Post, HuffPost, The Today Show, Newsweek, Business Insider, and Good Housekeeping, among many others. She writes essays and creative nonfiction about military life, divorce and relationships, women’s health, and parenting. 

Heather lives in Virginia Beach with her boyfriend, two kids, and their geriatric Labrador retriever. After living in Japan for three years, she discovered her love for travel, stamping her passport in countries like Thailand, South Korea, Costa Rica, Iceland, Belize, Curaçao and Mexico.
