The Starbucks Veterans Day discount has long given military veterans, active-duty service members and military spouses a free 12-ounce coffee in celebration of the Nov. 11 holiday.

But Starbucks has expanded its Veterans Day freebie to include an additional product: iced coffee.

That may seem like a small thing, but it shows that Starbucks isn't just listening to customer demand, it's also recognizing that veterans represent younger generations of Americans who prefer nontraditional coffee. According to a 2020 report to its investors, millennials and Gen Zers under age 30 are twice as likely to drink cold coffee than they are hot. Sales of cold beverages grew by 45% for the chain between 2016 and 2020, the report said.

To snag this Veterans Day freebie, shoppers need to order in store or by drive-through, not via the Starbucks app order-ahead option. The free hot or cold coffee is limited to one per customer, according to the Starbucks website.

As in years past, Starbucks is also recognizing Veterans Day by making a donation to veteran-focused charities. In the past, it has donated $.25 for every cup of brewed hot coffee sold nationwide on Veterans Day. For 2023, it is instead committing $200,000 split between Team Red, White and Blue, which promotes veteran community and fitness, and Travis Manion Foundation, which helps empower veterans and families of the fallen.

Starbucks is far from the only company offering free beverages or food on or around Veterans Day. You can find an exhaustive, alphabetical list of all Veterans Day food deals, discounts and freebies on Military.com.
