The Hampton Roads area in Virginia, which includes Newport News, Hampton, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Suffolk and Chesapeake, is home to several military installations. And it’s not hard to find local and regional businesses and attractions that offer military discounts in this area highly populated with military families.
Whether you live in Hampton Roads or you’re just visiting, the following are 20 military discounts to check into while you’re here. Don’t forget your military ID!
Keep in mind that MWR Information, Tickets and Tours (ITT) offices offer discounted tickets to parks, museums, movie theaters, and concerts. So before purchasing tickets either online or on location to local attractions, take the time to call or visit an ITT office at any base in the area (like NAS Oceana, Naval Station Norfolk, and JEB Little Creek-Fort Story).
The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium in Virginia Beach is an aerial forest park that provides hours of fun climbing and zip-lining through trees. They offer a military discount on admission for active-duty military.
American Indoor Karting in Virginia Beach provides indoor racing fun for the entire family (children must be at least 8 years old). They offer military discounts for active-duty military members and military dependents on races.
Through the SeaWorld Parks and Entertainment program “Waves of Honor,” military members can receive one complimentary admission per year to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg. This discount includes active-duty military, activated or drilling Reservists, and National Guardsmen, as well as three direct dependents.
The Children's Museum of Virginia in Portsmouth, Virginia is for families with children ages one through 11. The museum offers a $1 off military discount, and kids under age 2 are free.
Throughout the year, active-duty military, Reservists, National Guard personnel, retired military and veterans qualify for 25% off the purchase of Single-day admission tickets for themselves and up to three direct dependents, or 25% off the purchase of an Annual Passes for themselves and up to three direct dependents.
Colonial Williamsburg has also joined Blue Star Museums, which means that between Armed Forces Day and Labor Day, military families are offered one day of free admission to the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg. (Please note the Blue Star Museums program was canceled for 2020. Check back in 2021 for updates.)
The Great Wolf Lodge, a huge indoor water park in Williamsburg, offers a discount to military families through their Howling Heroes program.

The Lynnhaven Mall in Virginia Beach is filled with stores that show their appreciation for the military with discounts, so make sure to ask wherever you shop.
10. MacArthur Center
The MacArthur Center in Norfolk is a shopping mall with 100 stores. Although not all stores in the mall offer military discounts, many of them do.
And the MacArthur Center isn’t just for shopping. Each year starting in November and going through January, an ice skating rink opens up outside the mall. Military personnel and their family members receive a discount off the admission price, so lace up your skates and head over for winter fun for a discount.
The Norfolk Botanical Garden is a Virginia Historic Landmark filled with beautiful themed gardens, 95 species of birds, and 30 kinds of butterflies. They offer $2 off general admission tickets with a military ID.
Don’t miss their holiday Garden of Lights on display from Thanksgiving night through December 31. They typically offer military discounts. (Check back at Military.com or their website around the holidays.)
The airlines serving Norfolk International Airport offer discounts subject to availability to active-duty military travelers and their dependents. Active-duty military with ID receive a 20% discount in all airport retail shops courtesy of Hudson News and a 15% discount on food and non-alcoholic beverages in all airport restaurants.
Norfolk Premium Outlets supports service members and their families by offering special discount at participating retailers. Look for the patriotic star on their windows.
Discounted Military vouchers for Norfolk Tides baseball games can be purchased at select local MWR/ITT ticket offices, such as NAS Oceana ITT & Cruise Office and Naval Station Norfolk. Vouchers must be redeemed for a game ticket at the Norfolk Tides Box Office prior or the day of the game you attend. To avoid waiting in line, redeeming vouchers in advance is highly encouraged. Play ball!
Ocean Breeze in Virginia Beach, which is open from mid-May through early September, is a family-friendly water park that features over 30 rides, slides and attractions. Enjoy free parking, free sunscreen and free inner tubes. They offer a military discount off daily admission tickets. Local MWR offices may also offer discounts.
The Virginia Air and Space Center, located in Hampton, Virginia, is the visitor center for NASA Langley Research Center and Langley Air Force Base. It features interactive aviation exhibits spanning 100 years of flight, over 30 historic aircraft, a hands-on space exploration gallery, space flight artifacts, and more. They offer military discounts on admission.
The Virginia Aquarium offers a $2 off Aquarium admission to active-duty military personnel, immediate family members, and retired military with a valid ID. Discounted tickets for the whole family are available at most MWR offices. Choose between admission to the aquarium only or a combination that includes a 3D IMAX movie. And make sure you plan for a boat excursion.
Grab your golf clubs and head over to Virginia Beach National to use your military discount. In season (April through October), military green fee rates are $47 on weekdays and $57 on weekends. Out of season (November through March), military rates are $37 on weekdays and $47 on the weekends.
At the Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, active-duty military members and veterans get $1 off daily admission or $15 off any level of general membership. Discounts do not apply to guest add-ons. Spend a day learning about 250 living species native to Virginia through discovery centers and interactive exhibits. While you’re there, try to catch a planetarium show and stop by the observatory.
20. Virginia Zoo
The Virginia Zoo in Norfolk offers $2 off general admission for active-duty, retirees, and dependent family members every day. The zoo also typically holds an annual Military Appreciation Day when admission is free for military members and their families.
